Hi everyone!
This past summer I took a small vacation. Most might think it’s crazy for a wedding photographer to go on vacation in the midst of the wedding season. However I truly believe that there’s no better time than the present to do what you want to do. No sense waiting until you retire to spend time relaxing with family, because that day might never come.
And so I went to Mexico. Here are a few images taken with the Holga.
Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit

This is from a fun photo session with one gorgeous young lady!

Oh Holga how I love thee for your mystery and imperfection!!

Hi everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. What did you guys do? Tell me in the comments below!!
I had a busy & fun filled weekend. I got to hangout with some Raiders (Silver Creek high school) at their class reunion on Saturday night and hung out with an even funner group on Sunday. A mother daughter & their two dogs. One sweeter than honey & one feisty!!!
Images from both days events coming soon….
Here are a couple of film images from a bit ago but on a day similar to this weekends. Both taken in San Francisco.

and not let it turn into a job you hate?
I’ve been asked this on numerous occasions. It’s true sometimes when you take something you love to do and turn it into a job you can become “over it” fast.
I personally have kept my love of photography by always taking time to shoot for myself. When I shoot for myself I don’t worry if it will be a perfect shot, or if “they will love it” or if it will get chosen for an album/card/canvas or anything else. When I shoot for myself I shoot to please ONLY myself .. and if anyone else likes it then that’s cool too. When I shoot for myself I shoot with whatever camera is handy and don’t worry about the “professional quality” of it. This goes for all my Iphone images (not the best resolution ever -but they capture images that mean something to me), my various Polaroid cameras (although they are quite often requested by clients) and mostly I say this for my Holga camera.
It looks a bit umm “ghetto” .. but seriously it’s my FAVORITE camera!
and as such the Dreamy images it produces are often my favorite and are the images I love to share here on what once started as “film friday” but turned into “film friday on saturday.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy taking them!
The following images were taken in July at a street festival in downtown Campbell, CA. If you are the owner of one of these beautiful images and would like a complimentary copy please drop me a note (info@marianamaya.com).
*these images have only been altered by the reproduction of the scan and the addition of a watermark. I hope to print these in the dark room soon…
So if you’ve turned your love/passion/hobby into a job maintain the love for it by remembering to set aside some time to do it for YOURSELF! because in the end YOU are the only one that matters to YOU!

Hi All!
Film Friday took a little vacation..he he ..but It’s back!
I’ve mentioned a gazillion times and I’m sure I will mention a gazillion more I LOVE Polaroids!
I’m very sad though…my stock has depleted tremendously. And with this whole thing of it’s almost extinct I will be shooting less and less Polaroids. So each Polaroid I shoot is like Gold to me.
If you’ve booked me and you specifically want a Polaroid taken please be sure to mention it a few weeks before, so I can work hard to find more from the few people left who are reselling. IF you have some you are selling PLEASE let me know!
Today I leave you with a couple images I took at Doug & Grace’s wedding.
See you next Friday for more Film Friday!

If you follow my blog you already know that I love Polaroid film. You might also be aware that the company Polaroid decided to stop manufacturing this film in Feb 2008. Sadly it is quickly disappearing. There are still a few boxes left out there and they have quickly gone from $13 a box (10 images) to $20!! and maybe even more. I am happy to announce that The Impossible Project was started to manufacture more of this delicious instant film, hoping to remanufacture this film by the end of 2009. I am hoping it happens!! Until them.. I will be contributing to the increasing Polaroid price as a buyer and seeing as my Economic 101 class proves right in the rule of “supply & demand”.
The next two images I took by holding a magnifying lens up.

It’s been gorgeous in the Bay Area these past few weeks! Luckily for me I’ve been all over it in client meetings, and shoots! I’ve snuck in some personal work in between. Here are a few scanned in images taken with my Pentax. Apologies for the dust specks.
San Francisco, taken on different days:
Did anyone get a chance to go see the SF Andy Warhol exhibit? What did you think?
Santa Cruz.:
This was really cool! It had been washed up to shore.

Ok it’s really Saturday morning. But let’s pretend it’s Friday.
Thursday I photographed an intimate San Francisco wedding. After the ceremony I played tourist a bit. These are just two images from that day.
The first is a well known landmark. It’s huge and breathtaking. However it is not invincible. Back on September 11, 2001 many Americans feared this landmark would be attacked. At that time many of us felt small and powerless. I love this image it is a reminder of how relative everything is. In this image the Golden Gate bridge doesn’t look as big.
This next image is of San Francisco City Hall. The architecture is amazing not only on the outside but on the inside as well. If you have never been you should go in and take a look around. You can get married and pay taxes at the same location. It is also the site of the 1978 double homicide of Milk & Moscone . And if you rather hear of fun events then be sure to check out ll teh music events that happen in the outside in the quad area such as Lovefest.
While being a “tourist” do you stick to the tourist path or do you prefer to get lost and find hidden treasures. I would love to hear. Tell me about it here

This was one of my funnest Engagement sessions ever. Yes I say this all the time, I know. But seriously it was. (until the next time I say it) Let me give you all the things that make it so: Sun, water, sand, beach, surfing, low tides, weekday, surf shop, and if that wasn’t enough a FUN AWESOME couple super dooper in crazy love. All this took place in Santa Cruz, California. And to make it even better- I have known the bride since she was in grade school, so in other words just a few short years !!! Actually now that I think about it so much more is involved.. and Well you will have to wait to find out more about this session and the couple.
OMG! I am so excited they are getting married this summer at a beautiful old mission.
For now I leave you with these 2 images, since it is Film Friday they are both Polaroids taken by ME! I say this because my awesome second shooter took some too, but those I will post later…
Be sure to leave a comment either telling me how lucky I am
or with wishes for the future Mr. & Mrs. Lots of you readers might even recognize the bride to be!!
